If you’re new to TikTok, you might feel unsure about where to begin.

With a few steps, you can make your first video and start exploring what everyone else is creating.
Create Your TikTok Account
Start by downloading the TikTok app on your iPhone or Android device. Once it installs, open it and create a free account. You can sign up with your email, phone number, or an existing social account like Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter.
TikTok will ask you to verify your account. After that, you can choose a username. The app will check that your name is unique before you save it.
Explore Videos
When your account is ready, TikTok will take you straight to the video feed. Here, you can watch short videos made by people around the world.
If you like a video, tap the heart icon. You can also comment or share it with friends on other platforms. If you want to follow a creator, tap their profile picture on the left side of the screen, then hit the follow button.
Understand the TikTok Menu Bar
You’ll find TikTok’s menu bar at the bottom of the screen. It has five icons:
Home – This refreshes your “For You” page. TikTok uses your past activity to suggest videos you might enjoy.
Search (Magnifying Glass) – Use this to look for accounts, keywords, or hashtags.
Plus Sign (+) – This is where you create and upload your own videos.
Notifications – See likes, comments, and updates.
Profile (Person Icon) – View your uploaded videos and edit your profile.
Update Your Privacy Settings
Open your profile and tap the three dots in the top right corner to access your settings. Here, you can switch your account to private at any time. By default, all accounts start as public.
You can also limit who sees your videos, who comments on your posts, and who can interact with you.
If you’re using TikTok for business or marketing, you can switch to a Pro account from this menu.
